Semi-automatic Generation of Semantic Web Services for Relational Biological Databases

چکیده
In recent years, a large amount of “-omics” data has been produced. However, these data are stored in many different species-specific databases that are managed by different institutes and laboratories. Biologists often need to find and assemble data from disparate sources to perform certain analyses. Searching for these data and assembling it is a time-consuming task. The Semantic Web helps to facilitate interoperability across databases. A common approach involves the development of wrapper systems that map a relational database schema onto existing domain ontologies. However, few attempts have been made to automate the creation of such wrappers. We developed a framework, named BioSemantic, for the creation of Semantic Web Services applicable to relational biological databases. This framework makes use of both Semantic Web and Web Services technologies and can be divided into two main parts: (i) the generation and semi-automatic annotation of an RDF view; and (ii) the automatic generation of Semantic Web Services. We have used our framework to integrate genomic data from different plant databases. BioSemantic is a framework designed to speed the development of Semantic Web Services for existing relational biological databases. Currently, it creates and annotates RDF views that enable the automatic generation of SPARQL queries. Web Services are also created and deployed automatically, and the semantic annotations of our Web Services are added automatically using SAWSDL attributes. Ontology Development for the Semantic Web: an HTML Form-Based Reverse Engineering Approach
The rapid growth of the Internet makes information available anywhere and anytime. Most businesses run Web-based front-end databases upon which online services are offered to end-users. The next generation of the Web, the semantic Web, seeks to offer data in a usable form for automatic reasoning. To this purpose, it is necessary to make existing database content ready-to-use for semantic Web ap...
متن کاملSEMI-AUTOMATIC WEB SERVICE GENERATION AND CLASSIFICATION Automated assistance to the web service life cycle
The convergence of semantic web techniques with web service technologies has enabled the emergence of so-called semantic web services. This new kind of services enacts the automatic manipulation of services by software programs, to perform tasks such as automatic service location, composition, and invocation. In this paper, we propose methods and techniques that enable the semi-automatic genera...
متن کاملGenerating Semantic Web Services from Declarative Descriptions
Semantic Web services are an effective middleware for semantic querying of relational databases. Despite the benefits of this approach, writing Web service code manually is labor-intensive and error-prone. To ameliorate this, we propose a framework to generate SADI web services from declarative service descriptions in which access to databases is achieved through semantic mappings. These mappin...
متن کاملOntograte: towards Automatic Integration for Relational Databases and the Semantic Web through an Ontology-Based Framework
Integrating existing relational databases with ontology-based systems is among the important research problems for the Semantic Web. We have designed a comprehensive framework called OntoGrate which combines a highly automatic mapping system, a logic inference engine, and several syntax wrappers that inter-operate with consistent semantics to answer ontology-based queries using the data from he...
متن کاملMachine learning techniques for annotating semantic web services
The vision of semantic Web Services is to provide the means for fully automated discovery, composition and invocation of loosely coupled software components. One of the key efforts to address this “semantic gap” is the well-known OWLS ontology (The DAML Services Coalition 2003). However, software engineers who are developing Web Services usually do not think in terms of ontologies, but rather i...
